This labor of love began 5 years ago.  I was tasked to direct the school play for Peak to Peak Mountain Charter School in Pine Mountain Club, CA.  They had a bunch of scripts related to SEL (Social Emotional Learning), and I came across one with a Wizard of Oz theme! 

The script had so much potential, so I decided to take it to the next level.  I also wanted the songs to resonate with parents as well as kids, so I relied on parody--Weird Al Yankovic-style--for the music and rewrote the lyrics to popular songs to fit the narrative.

The combination of mostly-80's tunes, comedic lyrics, SEL content, and this classic story was finally ready to go.  I swear a rainbow arced over the school that morning as I presented it to the class.  We then made posters for auditions to be held on Friday, March 13, 2020..........

Recess with my grade 5 class this past November.  A conflict on the field.  I encourage the students to employ a certain tactic that I learned and used in the script years ago.  It worked.

I made some copies and we read it as a class.  The kids really enjoyed it, and I decided maybe there may be some life in this puppy.

With the most generous and invaluable help from Dominic Castillo and family, we have been able to record the album as a guideline for those who might want to produce the show (script will be made available soon) or just for your own entertainment and/or edification.  

If this little project provides you even a modicum of the joy, hope, enthusiasm, laughter, optimism, and love that I experienced in creating it, then I will consider it my greatest success.
