Campers will have the opportunity to participate both on stage and behind the scenes. Campers can choose if they'd like to act in the show, stage manage, run crew, or to help design / build costumes, sets, masks, puppets and/or props. They are welcome to stick to what they enjoy most. No camper will be forced to perform or design if they are not interested. All campers will be asked to pitch in and help get the show up on its feet in time for curtain call. Theatre is a collaborative art and it takes all hands on deck to make it happen!
Camp starts at 10:00am and ends at 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. Campers can be dropped off as early as 9:45am and picked up as late as 3:30pm.
If your family needs before or after care, please contact us and we will make arrangements to accommodate you as best we can.
One of the primary principles our campers learn is that on stage, just as in life, the role in which one is cast is merely a roadmap to a destination. The person playing the role is the driver, and their imagination is the vehicle. This is one of the life skills we enjoy teaching to children at this age, and it comes up every year. It is true, some characters speak more words than others, but each character serves a vital role in the play, and we always choose plays with rich characters of action. We have several stories from former campers and from our own professional experience in which the most delicious lemonade was squeezed from what appeared to be the sourest of lemons. The ensemble nature of theatre is something we value most, so by attending BCTC, your child is agreeing that casting decisions are final.
The simple answer is: "Yes". Our design room and rehearsal room are separate. Being part of the design team is as a way to be part of the whole while doing your own art thing. There will be times when the entire group is together but the campers can focus on what interests them and are not forced to participate in both activities if they don’t want to.
Campers are not to share their lunches or snacks throughout the day. We will have a peanut free campus as this is such a common allergy. Please let us know if your child has issues with certain foods so that we are aware and are equipped to support a healthy environment for them.
